Sandbox projectThe sandbox project was established to assist developers in two ways: first, we offer a safe environment for "playing": while offering incredible powerful methods, learning new web programming skills can be a daunting task at first. We offer limited access rights to both the webserver and the database, so you can't accendentally take down a live project from your PI. We provide a controlled environment in which you can play as much as you like, without having to be afraid of hurting yourself, just like a... well... sandbox. :-)For beginning developers, you'll often be faced with a seemingly impossibly complex task for which nevertheless a simple solution may exist (e.g.: how do I generate images on the fly?). The staff at the BCBLab is versed in many different operating environments and so we are able to provide technical support for most programming languages. After all, the BCBLab is here to serve you. We won't want you to feel that you're left in the sandbox by yourself: constant friendly assistance is available should you wish for it. Secondly, sandboxes can also be used as test environments for new applications, to testdrive them, collect comments on them and debug them. A sandbox can be used as a staging platform before rolling out the real deal. Current features of a sandbox include: PHP, ASP, ASP.NET and a MySQL account. Other requirements such as alternate database access or scripting languages (Perl, Python...) will be made available when requested. If you are a student looking for a sandbox or a PI looking to provide a test environment for your student, please contact us so we can set up a space for you.
